New Book Review Bead Riffs

So this week I finally found the time to review a book I've had my eye on since it was released last year. Rachel Nelson-Smith's Bead Riffs (part of Lark's Master Beadweaving Master Class series) takes a unique approach to designing with beadwork. More importantly for us voracious beaders, Rachel shares her secrets for building gorgeous dimensional designs using right-angle weave and tubular peyote stitch.

You may remember Rachel's work from her cuff kits and her first book, Seed Bead Fusion, both previously reviewed by Jennifer.

Two interesting things I've learned about Rachel this week (in addition to the fact that she's an accomplished jazz singer):

  • She melts the ends of her beading thread with a cigarette lighter instead of a thread burner (hard core!)
  • She has the coolest avatar photo, with the camera looking up through a clear glass tabletop as she's beading.

If you've tried any of Rachel's designs or techniques yourself, please share!

  • Get a free project download from the book from Lark Crafts.
